There is already a comprehensive French dictionary of the Syrian Arabic dialect by Adrien Barthélemy. Egyptian Arabic is covered by the detailed English dictionary by Martin Hinds and El-Said Badawi. Now the German-speaking world also has its own encyclopedic dictionary for an Arabic dialect, namely Palestinian Arabic. During two stays of one year each near Ramallah, I collected vocabulary from all over Palestine myself and with the help of assistants. I then systematically searched through all the dialectological literature on Palestine for more than seven years and supplemented all the words that were missing in my collection with precise references. Over 57,000 quotations were incorporated in that process. After almost ten years of work, the result was two large-format volumes with a total of approximately 1,350 pages. The work is organized according to Arabic roots and contains more than 9,000 roots with over 30,000 entries. In addition, there are about 11,000 examples and compounds. This makes it one of the most comprehensive Arabic dictionaries in a European language.
